More Residents Buying Medication in Hong Kong

More Residents Buying Medication in Hong KongMedicines is becoming a part of a shopping list of Shenzhen residents during their trips to Hong Kong as some of them are thinking that these medicines sold across the border such as imported drugs for special uses and Hong Kong made drugs like ointments are cheaper and safer.

Known brands such as White Flower Oil, Tiger Balm and Wood Lock ointment are usually sold out in drugstores in the Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay and Sha Tin area. Shoppers were seen buying 20 packs of the popular items in one single trip. Residents thought that drugs sold in Hong Kong are of better quality and cheaper compared to those being sold in the mainland especially imported drugs, while others believe that Hong Kong drugstores have more variety.

Some residents are saying that if these drugs are sold in the mainland at a reasonable price, they will not bother traveling to Hong Kong to purchase medication. A spokesperson from public hospital in Shenzhen said that some of the medicines especially imported anti tumor drugs are rarely found in Shenzhen and are not covered by medical insurance, thus prompted most residents to buy these medicines in Hong Kong to save money.

Shenzhen buyers are advised by the consumer council of Hong Kong to be careful in purchasing drugs in several stores in Hong Kong since some are noted to sell counterfeit medication.
