Dual Currency Transit Card to Be Used in 2014
The Guangdong Province and Singapore is planning to release a dual currency transit card for the first half of 2014. The transit card will be called SINOVisitorPass and Guangdong Lingnan Pass Co. will be the one responsible in operating the card in Guangdong.
The card can hold credits for both the Chinese yuan and Singapore dollars which is intended for business people and tourists traveling frequently to both regions to give them more flexibility and convenience. Once operational the cards will allow visitors to access tourist attractions, retail deals, food, beverages and other lifestyle applications in both countries using the pass. EZ-Link will be the company to provide the services in Singapore. The card was introduced during the fifth Singapore-Guangdong Collaboration Council that was held in Guangzhou and may eventually expand to other areas in China.
Liu Tuck Yew, Singapore’s Minister of Transport stated that a strong and mutual beneficial partnership with Guangdong as several Singapore companies have contributed to the Guangdong’s economical transformation. Singapore also saw an increase in the number of tourists and businessmen coming from Guangdong.
Also in other news by the end of the year, the Lingnantong card, will apply to Hong Kong and Macao. The card is the first smart card in Guangdong will allow users to use the cards on buses in 18 cities across the province stating next year.
