China Mobile Awards 4G Contracts to Chinese Firms
Makers of telecom equipment such as Huawei Technologies and Ericsson were waiting for China Mobile 4G in efforts to increase fortunes of the industry which is hit due to the lack of spending. By developing a 4G network of the carrier which has more than 700 million subscribers is said to be the key in sealing an agreement with Apple to allow the company to carry the iPhone in its phone line up. Huawei and its rival ZTE already obtained 25 percent each of the total 4G procurement of China Mobile, while Ericsson, Nokia Siemens and Alcatel Lucent obtained 10 percent each.
A statement released by China Mobile confirmed that the tender was begun and its process is going smoothly. The company will be building 200,000 base stations and the government will likely issue licenses that will help China Mobile to compete alongside its rivals China Telecom and China Unicom.
Apple is set to release its next iPhone which is rumored to be a cheaper version that is likely to support China Mobile’s 4G LTE technology.
