iPad Sales in China Slumps in the Second Quarter of this Year
The share of iPad’s in the tablet computer market in China have plunged more than 20 percent points in the second quarter as Samsung Electronics Co. increased its lead in the smart phones therefore cutting Apple’s sales.
During the first quarter, Apple’s iPad accounted for 28 percent of tablet computer shipments in China down from 49 percent compared a year earlier. While Samsung surged ahead from 6 percent to 11 percent compared to a year earlier. China is the largest market of Apple outside of US soil, this poses a challenge for the company as more price-conscious people are looking for cheaper tablets and smart phones that run on Google’s Android. The iPhone’s market share in China’s mobile phone market is down 5 percent as Samsung led with 18 percent while local makers such as Lenovo is fast gaining ground.
Android users are growing due to the strong price advantage since most of the consumers are familiar with the operating system of Android smart phones that they like to use it on Android tablets.
Other vendors that entered the top ten in the market have market shares with 1 percent including Washington based Microsoft Corp. Redmond, and two Shenzhen based companies ZTE and Huawei Technologies.
