Transport Commission to Work on Improving Traffic at Meilin Checkpoint
The transportation commission promised to work on easing the congestion at Meilin Checkpoint before the year ends by expanding Meiguan Expressway and to speed up construction work on the construction of the northern extension of Caitain Road. The Bantian – Yinhu Passage project is scheduled to start in 2014.
To further improve traffic flow, inspection stands will be dismantled along with speed ramps and to renovate border facilities only after approval is made by upper level authorities. Deputy chief of the transport commission said that the expansion of the northern section of Meiguan Expressway will be completed this year and Meilin Checkpoint will be turned into a terminal for public transportation wherein commuters can transfer between buses, trains and taxis. Other checkpoints will also undergo renovations.
The decision to speed up work is when Shenzhen Party chief Wang Rong visited the checkpoint along with several city officials to discuss and find solutions to help improve traffic. Several trunk roads at the checkpoint are known for heavy congestion during evening and morning rush hours.
