Insurance Cards to be Transformed into Debit Cards for More Flexibility
Health insurance cards in Shenzhen will be transformed into debit bank cards to allow residents to withdraw money from bank accounts and make payments as well. the newly transformed cards will give more compatibility with more government, public and financial services in the city.
The city social security department will be the one responsible in issuing the cards to residents through their employers, either public or private or directly to unemployed residents that are making health insurance payments. The insurance cards will be issued by banks have already signed cooperation agreements with the social security department.
Once implemented the city will be adding more social services to the card such as personal information on social security, labor protection and human resources. Residents will then be able to access their information and therefore pay for services at self service terminals or online. To protect the security of user’s personal information a database will be created.
The new insurance cards will be issued starting in October on a trial basis, the current cards will then be stop being issued in December and a management system for the new card will be completed by January next year.
