Li Na Advances to US Open Quarterfinals
Chinese tennis star Li Na advanced to the quarter finals of the US Open after beating former world number 1 Jelena Jankovic 6-3, 6-0 Sunday. Fifth seed Li Na overturned last year’s defeat by Laura Robson beating the Brit in the third round and snapped a four match losing streak which dates back to 2009.
In a statement Li said that she prefers playing during daytime, but played under the lights last night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Li like playing the first match since you have to play at once, unlike night session you wait the whole day just to play at night. Li got into the spirit of the night and didn’t let Jankovic see any signs of weakness or nervousness. She also said that the match might have been the best one she had in her life. Jankovic praised Li saying that she played at a very high level and if she continues to play in this intensity she might be able to win the tournament.
Li will face 24th seed Russian Ekaterina Makarova who defeated third seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-4.
