Country Creates Contest to Expand Cultural Influence
To further expand the country’s cultural influence a translations contest was held which involves contemporary Chinese language works. The committee responsible for organizing the 2013 China International Translation Contest chose 30 award winning contemporary Chinese short stories from well known Chinese writers.
People’s Literature Magazine editor in chief Shi Zhanjun said that the pieces chosen not only represents the best standards in modern Chinese literature but contains internationally appealing topics and elements of humanity. Interested participants either individual or in groups will be allowed to choose one of the 30 stories to translate into French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic and English and will have to submit in their works before February 28, 2014. Each winning translation will win a top prize of US$ 5,000.
The contest is hosted by the Chinese Writers Association, China International Publishing Group and the State Council Information Office.
