Toll Free Policy to be Implemented During National Day Holidays
A national toll free policy will be implemented by the city transportation commission in local expressways during the National Day holiday starting this Tuesday after the requirements of the provincial and central government. Vehicles no more than 7 seats are exempted from tolls on expressways nationwide and the toll free rule only applies when the vehicle exits the expressways.
Six hours before the start and end of the policy expressways tollgates in Guangdong will be issuing paper cards to drivers that will ensure smooth transitions of the in and out toll free policy. Vehicles that are heavier than 15 tons or are carrying hazardous materials are not allowed on the expressways. Tollgates are also required to set up barriers that will divide toll free vehicles from other vehicles. Tollgates with heavy traffic will designate lanes for toll free vehicles and sign will be placed to guide drivers.
Drivers are constantly reminded to be aware of the deadline of the toll free policy and to make sure to exit the expressway before the deadline comes up if they want to avoid paying tolls. Drivers are also advised to check the peak travel times and avoid it if possible.
