French Car Maker to Start Production in New Plant in Shenzhen
PSA Peugeot Citroen and its Chinese partner Changan will be starting the production of its upscale DS model at the company’s fourth Chinese factory and its new plant in Longhua New Area. The DS vehicle is Citroen’s up market brand.
French film actress Sophie Marceau handed over the keys to the first Shenzhen made Citroen DS5 to its owners during the opening ceremony of the new plant last Saturday. Car prices starts at 235,000 and the company will be flanking its DS5 vehicles with high end sedans and an SUV by 2015. The chairman of the Peugeot Citroen Philippe Varin said that he hopes that the DS5 car models will attract the younger Chinese generation which he said are an important customer group in the country.
China became the company largest market in the first quarter of the year after selling more than 142,000 vehicles. Peugeot started its first joint venture in China with Dofeng Motor Group. The French car maker three other factories are located in Wuhan.
China is now ahead of the United States as the world’s largest auto maker last year as sales when up 40 percent.
