Airport Conducts Second Rehearsal to Test Ability in Handling the Flow of Passengers
Shenzhen International Airport conducted a rehearsal to test its ability in handling passengers checking in at departures and arrival areas in the new terminal C. Around a thousand mock passengers and 18 flights which include four international flights were on hand to participate in the rehearsals.
Most of the mock passengers that participated were students from the Shenzhen University and the Shenzhen Polytechnic. The rehearsals tested the departure and arrival of passengers from checking in luggage and in claiming them. Participating passengers were given three pieces of baggage that they used to test the security services and ground services with the terminal’s luggage transportation system. This was the second rehearsal out of the three that are planned between August until October until its relocation in November.
The first rehearsal happen in august 16 as airport authorities saw more than 1,000 problems both big and small which needed improvements. During the second rehearsal sign at the terminal became more clearer and easier to follow. Nearly three times the size of terminal A and B the new terminal C covers more than 450,000 square meters and has 200 counters and 58 boarding gates.
The three level terminal C incorporates a pattern, double skinned canopy of glass and steel that allows patterned light to enter the building which reduces energy consumption by covering the space from excessive heat from the sun and at the same time hides mechanical systems from passengers view. The terminal also houses a large check in building with a wing like roof design on one side in a cross shaped structure.
Meanwhile the departure hall looks like a large manta ray that envelopes passengers and has a bright but diffused light passing through the canopy. It also houses information desks, airline check in counters and a car rental area.
