Hong Kong Joins Shenzhen in the Fight to Control Air Pollution
The Air Quality Enhancement Plan was released last September 27 which included the implementation of the desulfurization denitrification and dust removal technologies for its coal fired power generating units that will help promote cleaner power generation which will improve motor fuel quality and at the same time tighten the vehicle emission standards.
Hong Kong will continue to collaborate with Shenzhen and Guangdong to further establish regional joint mechanisms to help further control and prevent air pollution and enhance the cooperation of key areas that will assist in the improvement of air quality in the Pearl River delta region. Last March Hong Kong also released its clean air plan for Hong Kong project that places forwards a series of air quality improvement measures that covers sea and land transportation, power plants and non road mobile machinery to help in solving the air pollution problem.
These measures are taken into consideration under the Hong Kong and Shenzhen plans that will contribute to the improvement of the regional air quality around the Delta region and to help achieve the goals of the proposed delta emission reduction targets aimed for 2015 and for 2020 that was set by both the Hong Kong and Guangdong.
