Scheme Launched to Allow Hong Kong Elderly to Receive Allowances while Living in Guangdong
The Hong Kong Social Welfare Department recently launched its Guangdong Scheme in which qualified Hong Kong elderly people 65 years old and above who are living in Guangdong can receive the monthly allowance of HK$ 1,135 even without returning to Hong Kong.
The welfare department said that those elderly people who submitted applications on or before October can receive their allowance immediately as long as they have pass all of the eligibility criteria. From August 1 until September 30 the department received more than thirteen thousand applications. A representative from the department said that any applicant who provides all of the necessary documents that were required by the department and get their application approved can get payments within seven working days.
Based on the Social Security Allowance Scheme, the planned Guangdong scheme was created to provide old age allowance to eligible Hong Kong elderly who choose to live in Guangdong on a monthly basis. The recipient of the scheme will be entitled to a full year allowance if they have complied with the minimum residence period of 60 days in Guangdong.
