Leader’s Summit to Find Ways to Further Deepen Cooperation Between China and ASEAN Countries
The 16th China-ASEAN leader’s summit will be held with information being conveyed to the summit by Chinese leaders and the 10 ASEAN member states on ways to deepen cooperation in all fields. Every direction and principles will be adhered in the growing bilateral relations to gain attention.
China and ASEAN countries have gone through extraordinary paths of cooperation and have become an important consensus and objective to build a community for cooperation and interest. In the past ten years a strategic partnership was launched and bilateral trade has witnessed a five fold increase with a two way investment that tripled in the past decade. China became the largest trading partner of ASEAN and at the same time ASEAN became China’s third largest trading partner as well. Today the cooperation between the two sides features the establishment of the China ASEAN free trade zone which is thriving well.
Premier LI Keqiang described the decade of the China ASEAN cooperation as the reflection of the need for joint development. Practice has proven that both sides are natural cooperative partners since both have foundation and the potential for cooperation along with the willingness for cooperation. Experiences from previous successful cooperation during those years was because of the said Asian Way which is building a mutual trust politically and sticking to the principle of mutual benefit in a economic cooperation while properly resolving difference using dialogue and consultation.
ASEAN was founded in 1967 and relations between the regional block and China gone through a very long process of extraordinary development. And while both sides develop into dialogue partners after the war, bilateral ties have advance from a comprehensive dialogue partnership into a 21st century oriented type of partnership practicing mutual trust before elevating into a strategic partnership for prosperity and peace.
