China Proposes Treaty to Further Upgrade Economic Cooperation with ASEAN Countries
China is working on ways to further political trust with its Southeast Asian neighbors to upgrade economic cooperation with these countries. Analysts from the Asia-Pacific studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences states that political mutual trust with neighboring countries plays a important role in maintaining stability while promoting economic development.
A deep political trust must be laid as the foundation for cooperation in all economic fields between ASEAN countries and China since this will assist in solving remaining problems. At the 16th China-ASEAN meeting, leaders were on hand to discuss a treaty that is proposed by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang of establishing good neighborliness between China and its neighbors. By proposing the treaty, China will be showing its political determination in creating a peaceful development that is beneficial for all countries in the region. The main point is to sell China as a dependable and friendly partner rather than a threat.
Given the recent economic development of the country, it can’t be help if some ASEAN countries still worry on the possibility of China affecting their own development. But China hopes to address this concern by creating mechanisms for political communication along with economic cooperation.
The treaty for good neighborliness will indeed help China and ASEAN countries establish a close community, given the fact that regional countries might sacrifice general peace and stability in the region to further their own interests. To prevent this, legal mechanisms will be created to prevent countries from encroaching on the general interests of some regions.
