Parents Warned on Using Intraveneous Drips Medication on Children
The city adverse drug effect monitoring center along with city health officials are asking parents to treat children disease with oral medicine and injectables, as reports of children having severe adverse reactions to intravenous drips were received. Health officials are saying that IV drips is the major cause of these effects in children. And local hospitals are using IV drips in treating children since its effects can be seen faster than administering oral medications. Some parents are also known for asking doctors to use IV drips in treating their children.
Although parents know that using IV drips on their children is harmful they feel that the children can recover faster, compared to taking oral medication which takes a few day to take effect. While other parents say that drips are easier to administer than oral medicines. Parents say that children younger than 3 years old are very difficult, they fuss every time they take their medicine sometimes they spill or spit out the medicines that why parents are opting for IV drips.
These IV drips enter the bloodstream directly and there are requirements in administering and storing these types of medicines and one mistake can be harmful and adverse effects can be seen immediately. City officials are encouraging parents to use oral medication and injectables in treating their children since this is still the safest way in treating children and IV drips should only be used as an option.
