Ministry of Finance Announced Planned Budget to be Used in Controlling Air Pollution
The Central Government has released its budget of 5 billion yuan that will be used as a reward for regions that are making efforts in their air pollution treatment. The Ministry of Finance sated that the funds will be distributed to several municipalities in Beijing and Tianjin, and Shanxi, Shangdong and Hebei provinces as well as area in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The distribution of the said funds to provincial level regions will be done early next year and the amount will be based on a regions’ pollution reduction target, the rate if PM 2.5 decrease and the amount invested in treating pollution.
Cities in china have been experiencing heavy air pollution in the past years and it’s getting worse as due to emissions from coal burning power stations. Last January Beijing alone recorded high levels of air pollution and during the National Day Holidays had severe hazy in the last few days as vehicle emissions contributed as travelers rushed home after the holidays. This air pollution can be blamed on the dramatic economic development, climate factors and rapid urbanization and these problems get worse during winter.
Last month Beijing’s local government released its Five Year Clean Air Action Plan that discussed comprehensive and strictest measures that will be implemented to further control the severe air pollution in the city. Based on the plan, Beijing is working to reduce the PM2.5 particle density along with plans to control its density within 60 micrograms per cubic meter
