Individual Tourists Outnumbered Tourists who Joined Group Tours in Visiting Taiwan
A report has shown that the number of individual tourists have outnumbered those who joined of have booked packages tours to Taiwan during the week long National Holidays. From October 1st to the 7th more than 23,000 individual tourists from the mainland toured Taiwan which is 144percent higher compared to the same period last year.
The number of tourists showed an year on year increase of 14 percent and this was the first time that the individual tourists have outnumbered those who traveled in package tours. The travel ban for leisure purposes to Taiwan was lifted in July 2008 by Taiwan authorities in their hopes to increase tourism into the country as tourists during those times were only allowed to enter if they are traveling in group tours.
And on June of 2011, Taiwan finally opened their doors to individual tourists from Shanghai, Beijing and Xiamen and in August 2013 the more mainland cities were added to the list. Independent tourists traveling to Taiwan may benefit small businesses and give local the opportunities to interact without too much pressure on local facilities.
