Dapeng to Open New National Park Before the Year Ends
Dapeng Peninsula is planning to open a new national park by the end of this year. The planned 50 square kilometer park will include Qiniang Mountain considered the second highest peak in Shenzhen that houses volcanic relics that dates back 135 million years and 20,000 year old coastal landforms.
The park was approved by the State in 2005 and construction started in 2010with the first stage includes a geology museum, coastal paths, a wetland mangrove area and hiking paths. The museum houses various technologies that introduce geological knowledge to visitors and tourists alike. The museum displays more than 400 minerals and the wetland area covers more than 13 square kilometers of stretch of sand, a creek and lagoon.
China is home to 179 national geological parks including the seven parks in Guangdong and 27 of these parks are of international status. Park officials are planning to apply for an international status for the park in hopes to help improve the park’s status. The park also signed a deal with Huguangyan International Geological Park to lend a hand in making the park in Dapeng into a national attraction.
