Residents Participates in Book Exchange ProgramIn a reuse program that was initiated by the city in the efforts to further reduce waste, had residents participating in a book exchange program with other residents in front of Shenzhen Book City in Futian.

The event is the start of a special program of the urban management bureau to help increase the people’s awareness of garbage classification and recycling. Te city has been promoting the domestic classification efforts in selected locations ranging from residential communities to schools, still resident’s awareness of garbage classification is needs improvement.

The book exchange participants exchanging more than 2,000 books with an estimated value of 33,000 yuan worth of books with topics such as geography, humanities, economics, management, literature and philosophy. These book exchangers were glad that such an activity was held as they were able to find books that they need without extra cost and was to find new owners of their books as well.

Participants exchanged 2,893 books, worth a total of more than 33,000 yuan (US$5,377). The books covered topics including the humanities, geography, economics, literature, management and philosophy. Some participants said they were excited to find books they had long searched for and to find new owners for their own used books.

A local resident was able to find an English Chinese dictionary that was published in 1978 after China has resumed its college entrance examinations which help students in learning English. Some were able to find books for their children and find books that their own children have outgrown. Organizers stated that more exchange events will be held in other districts before the year ends.
