Metro Plans Additional Train Carriages in Time for the Next Spring Festival
Longhua line is planning to add two sets of six carriage trains in time for the next Spring Festival. Work in expanding the lines four carriage trains is in response to passengers complaints on overcrowding.
The first six carriage train is already complete and will be delivered to Shenzhen in December for a test run. The rail line will also add two more sets of the six carriage trains after the Spring Festival which will be added every month to slowly increase the passenger capacity of the rail line. The transition from four carriages to sic is complicated and involves proper engineering to the carriages doors, signal, communication and power systems.
The rail line will also be upgrading its carriages on it 28 trains and build an additional 56 carriages. Last May the company started to renovate that sliding doors on the Lianhua North and Minle Metro stations and the project was completed recently.
During rush hours the trains on Longhua line tend to be overcrowded compared to other trains lines especially during the travel peak of the Spring Festival. Passengers say that the cause of the overcrowding is due to the four carriage trains on the line compared to the six carriages on the Longgang, Huanzhong, Shekou and Luobao lines.
