Ministry to Create Team to Check on the Air Pollution Measures
The Environmental Protection Ministry started its six month campaign to see if local governments and enterprises are following the regulations that were implemented to control air pollution. The campaign started this month will target heavily polluted regions in the country and will end in March next year will tackle inspecting regions that has the most smog especially in Beijing, Hebei and Tianjin provinces, central Liaoning province, the Real River Delta and Yangze River regions.
Ministry officials along with environmental authorities will be conducting investigations and will look into every sector that is believed to contribute to the air quality in the regions. The team will inspect if major industries have installed filters as required and to see if the discharged pollutants are within limits. They will also check if restaurants are using measures that prevent fumes from cooking in polluting that air. They will also oversee and make sure that the local government is closing down these polluting enterprises and at the same time remove dilapidated vehicles off roads.
Provincial environmental departments must suspend their approval of city or county projects when city and county level officials are not doing their inspections and punish polluters as required and at the same time publish these enterprises caught violating the regulations. A special fund will also be established to give rewards to residents that report any illegal acts.
