Upgrades on Bus Stops to Help Improve Commuting in Guangming New Area
To further improve the residents’ way of commuting authorities in the Guangming New Area is planning to upgrade around 380 bus stops over in the span of four years. Residents have long been criticizing the bus stops in Guangming for not having route maps, signs and shelter. While other are complaining that the facilities far from other public transportation in other districts.
Established in 2007, the Guangming New Area had only 17 bus stops and simple bus post stands that were temporarily erected for residents. These stands didn’t have any roofs so residents were forced to wait by the stand rain or shine. Since then the standard bus stops have increased to 61 but it represents only a small fraction of the total number of stops in the new area. To facilitate the construction of new bus stops the New Area used the BOT method which is build, operate and transfer and have invited private investors to come and participate in building the infrastructures. These investors can rent out ad space at these bus stops and use the revenues for its maintenance.
The bureau has already completed a round of bidding for the contracts to build the bus stops, after several rounds of bidding was aborted two years ago. The winning bidder will be responsible for upgrading the bus stops in the new area. The first bus stops will be first placed in Songbai Road, Gunagguang Road, Guangming Boulevard, Minsheng Boulevard and Donghuan Boulevard and is projected to be completed in time for the next Spring Festival.
