SIS Celebrates 25 Years!
This past weekend saw a large outdoor celebration in honour of Shenzhen’s oldest international school – Shekou International School (SIS) – who celebrated their 25th anniversary! Located on the soccer fields of Jing Shan Villa, SIS hosted hundreds of students and family members to relax and enjoy an entertaining afternoon of outdoor activities, picnicking, live band performances, and a movie viewing.
SIS was founded in 1988 with only 12 expatriate students, whose parents worked for foreign oil companies. The school has now grown to 800 students from all over the globe, representing over 40 countries! SIS currently features two campuses and offers a rigorous education within a caring community for students, from kindergarten age all the way through high school. The school sets a high standard of education which not only prepares students for continuing education in high-level universities around the world, but also prepares the students as well-rounded, caring individuals who positively contribute to the world around them.
“It is a great school which has a rich mixture of different cultures and an integrated curriculum based on best practices,” said Dr. Dale Cox, director of SIS. “I feel lucky to be part of it and witness the school’s growth. The key to the growth of the school has been its excellent faculty members.” SIS boasts 160 highly-trained, professional educators, who offer some of the world’s leading teaching approaches, as well as highly successful International Baccalaureate program. Cox and his colleagues stress the importance of increasing students’ knowledge and ability to face, relate to and interact with our ever-changing world. “We want to educate our students as global citizens,” said Cox. “In addition, we are working to be more involved with contributing to the local community… We have to learn to adapt to such a changing environment and keep a high standard when dealing with an increasing demand of enrollment from the expatriate community in Shenzhen.”
