Airport Cargo Area to Increase Handling Capacity
The western area of the Shenzhen International Airport just south of the new terminal C will open its first phase at the same time the terminal is set to open on November 28 and will have an area of 77,000 square meters which is double the size of the airports current cargo area. Adding to with the existing eastern cargo area south of Terminal B and with an area of 215,000 square meters will increase the airport’s mail and cargo handling capacity to around 2 million tons a year.
Once completed the cargo area will have a total area of 228,000 square meters and be made into the main area for handling cargo for international and domestic flights. The local government has already given the airport approval to conduct a cross border e-business plan on a trial basis last October and currently the city is applying to a General Administration of Customs so that he can handle the export business as a e-commerce. The approval is waiting for approval and is expected to be granted before the year ends.
Based on the 12th five year program of the Shenzhen Airport its mail and cargo turnover will reach at least a million tons by 2015. The express delivery accounts for 60 percent of the airport’s cargo business bringing it to par will the level of the cargo businesses in developing countries.
