Law to Address Disagreements Between Patient and Doctor
The city legislature is planning to create a law that will address any disagreement between a patient and doctors that the said law will be the first to be implemented in China once it’s approved. The city saw five incidents in the recent months in which patients have injured and attacked doctors at hospitals which increase concerns about the safety of hospital employees.
The proposed law will be fully explained and in details to the standing committee during next month’s meeting and the law is expected to be completed by next year. Legislators suggested that medical malpractice and other related mediation must be resolved by and outside and independent institution. While others proposed that the police should be the ones to handle mediation and the hospital will be the one to create the mediation institutions.
The deputy chief of the city’s doctors association Wang Tianxing said that the government should purchase medical liability insurance for doctors and hospitals. Wang also agreed that these independent institutions must be tasked with the settlement and compensation claims. The tension between the local city doctors and patients also caught the eye of lawmakers but not fully. Calls on increasing medical spending were also placed on the table but still lacks the attention.
Due to insufficient input led to the several problems such as the under use of medical centers and overcrowding at hospitals. 30 percent of the current medical dispute issue to the lack of services on public welfare that led to intensive physical workloads and loss of trust between a doctor and patient. Other reasons such as unequal distribution of resources and violence against hospital staff was also pointed out.
