Heavy Snow Closed Down Several Expressways
Heavy blizzard has forced traffic at expressway in Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces to close down which severely affect and delayed several flights. Snow covered the ground was measured as thick as 10 cm in some regions in Heilongjiang which included Harbin.
The provincial meteorological station predicts that the snow will last for several days in some regions. Expressways in the province will remain closed although Harbin Taiping International Airport remains operational, airport authorities issued a yellow alert for flight delays since visibility was down to 500 meters. Heavy snow also covered several expressways in Jilin province forcing it to close.
An orange alert for heavy snow was issued by the local meteorological station as eastern parts of Jilin will be expecting continuous snow for the next few days. While the country’s top meteorological station issued warnings on heavy snow to hit the northeastern region as well. This will be the second day that such alerts were issued as heavy snow and strong winds will be hitting Heilong-jiang, Liaoning and Jilin with an expected layer of snow as thick as 20 cm.
