App Released to Attract Overseas Chinese Users
To attract business from millions of Chinese users overseas, China Mobile International will be launching a mobile application that will allow anyone outside of China that has a Apple or Android smart phone with data connection to receive incoming calls for free from any China Mobile number. The app is called Jego and allows the users to make cheap international calls.
With more than 700 million subscribers, China Mobile is one of the largest mobile operators and the most profitable. Although it maintains a strong foothold in China it had trouble getting a hold of the overseas market share since. As the increase of social messaging apps are offering voice and text messaging over 3G data connections have hit global operators. A service such as WeChat, Kakao Talk and LINE are growing fast and is successful. While Skype Microsoft’s VoIP services offer users to communicate for free or call traditional phone numbers at lower rates.
Hong Kong based China Mobile International stated that the new service will target the domestic market in China and other non Chinese markets by partnering up with other mobile operators using the same network. The new service will provide traditional services using new technology.
By using Jego, users can save money and it allows them to communicate as if they were calling in China. The service will also have a way to send pictures, text messages, make video and voice calls for free.
