Cooperation to Boost Agricultural Development in Shenzhen
The city is taking another step in fostering its version of Silicon Valley that manufactures agricultural seed-breeding after signing of a strategic cooperation contract between the Shenzhen Agricultural Science Group and BGI a Shenzhen based genome sequencing company.
Both parties signed the contract a few days before the opening of the China Hi-Tech Fair at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Cooperation between the two companies will involve scientific research, agricultural industrialization, construction of ecological centers and technological development. According to BGI’s executive director Wang Jung sand that the three core concerns of residents is to have sufficient food supply, safety and nutrition when it comes to agricultural and one of the persistent issue that is being tackled is that some parts of the world is still living in hunger.
The cooperation between the two companies will create better opportunities for agricultural development for China by speeding up technological breakthrough by teaming up Shenzhen Agricultural Science Group lead position and market resources in the agricultural technology with BGI’s seed breeding technology and genome sequencing.
The cooperation is in line with the nation’s plan for agricultural development that reflects long term plans that develops the international biological center in Shenzhen. Furthermore the cooperation will help transform of BGI’s cutting edge technologies into production. It could also boost the development of new agricultural products in China.
