Shenzhen Sign Cooperation Agreements with Six Sister Cities
Shenzhen has formed new sister city relationships with six foreign cities after signing cooperation agreements and increasing the number of sibling municipalities to fifty three. the six new sister cities are Athens the capital of Greece, Plovdiv the second largest city in Bulgaria, Cork in southern Ireland, Suva the capital of Fiji, Ankara the capital of Turkey and Bishkek the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
City mayor Xu Qin hopes that the city will strengthen its cooperation with it newly formed sister cities in the fields of culture, tourism, education, low carbon development, science and technology. Furthermore the city will push on the efforts that will encourage the sustainable development. The mayor for Suva the capital of Fiji said that is no easy feat for Shenzhen to become a large city as it is, he said that his city could learn a lot from what the residents of Shenzhen has done to make their city what it is.
These new sister cities has expressed their intention and eagerness in creating new bonds with Shenzhen and share ideas and experiences in implementing clean and environmentally friendly projects in areas such as urban planning to public transportation.
