Defense Identification Zone to be Established Using International Practices
China will be establishing the first air defense identification zone that will be based on Chinese law and with international practices to further safeguard its sovereignty. This will allow a early warning time and assist China in protecting its territories and control air security.
The air defense identification one is part of the defensive area of airspace that is established by coastal spaces that is found beyond a territorial airspace. It is used to monitor, identify and react in a timely manner an aircraft that entered the zone that is deemed as air threats. The air defense identification zone will include areas that are enclosed by the outer limit of Chinese territorial waters along with six other points.
A representative for the People’s Liberation Army air force said that scouting planes has already completed its first patrol and is confident that the air force is capable of controlling the zone without influencing flights if international airlines. Since 1950s 20 countries has already established such air defense identification zones,
The ministry has also issued aircraft identification rules for the zone that stated that aircraft’s flying in the zone must follow the rules and will provide proper identification from flight plans, transponders, radio contacts and logo. Aircraft’s are also required to follow instructions of the zone’s administrative unit. The scope of the zone will cover China’s Diaoyu Islands and located 130 kilometers from Japan’s territory.
The zone differs from every territory and will not infringe other countries as the zone’s coverage area is determined by the need for air defense and flight order. It is important for China to identify aircraft’s at this time to help it assess its intentions and further examine identifiers that will allow enough time for response measures to be used to maintain air security.
