Students Given More Options to Choose Where to Study
Several schools in Shenzhen is planning to allow children that are born in Hong Kong but whose parents are not Hong Kong residents based on a recently signed agreement. So far these schools have already started accepting Hong Kong children and can provide more than a thousand seats by next year.
After these students graduate from any of these schools they can take part in the allocation for junior high school in Hong Kong. This agreement will make the students also eligible in entering qualified private schools in Hong Kong as well.
Carrie Lam Hong Kong’s chief secretary praised the new arrangement and said that it doesn’t meant that Hong Kong schools will not be accepting children anymore but is merely an option that allows the children to choose if they want to study in Shenzhen rather than spending everyday crossing the border just to go to school.
But even with the new agreement, the Hong Kong government will not be providing any subsidies to these children planning to study in Shenzhen and their tuition will be paid by their parents.
