Opening of New Terminal Went on Without any Major Problem
Operations went as smoothly as possible at the new terminal C at the Shenzhen International Airport as more than a hundred planes landed and left without any significant problems. The new terminal is said to handle around 600 flights on it first day of operations. More than 300 departures happened and its operations starting from check ins, security checks and baggage handling went without a hitch.
As soon as the terminal doors open, passengers started to fill in as they were all excited and curious on the new terminal. Some even went around to look for the best spot to take pictures in the naturally lit 451,000 square meter terminals that was designed by an Italian couple. Some of the first passengers said that they were so excited that they had to leave their homes early because of the fear of coming late to the airport in anticipation of the rush of people that are coming to see the new airport. But road signs that lead to the airport were clear and good and it only took some passengers around 30 minutes to reach the new terminal.
The first flight out of the new terminal was carried out by Shenzhen’s own airline flight ZH9853 that was bound for Inner Mongolia which took off at 7:53 am. Some people who were not traveling just visited the airport out of curiosity since it took the city more than three years to construct the new terminal.
The new terminal is one of the biggest and most luxurious compared to the two old terminals and offers better facilities
The success of the first day of opening was a relief to airport administrators as they were able to provide service to more than 83,000 passengers that day. The terminal is three times the size of the old terminals and has 200 check in counters and 62 boarding gates and can accommodate even the largest planes in the world.
