Hospitals to Provide Post Treatment Services to Patients
Several public hospitals in Futian are starting to provide post treatment pay service for all its patients. The new service applies to all patients regardless of they are covered by medical insurance in Shenzhen. Patients without insurance needs to register with the hospitals by providing a mobile phone number than can give them access to the service.
The Futian District People’s Hospital is the first hospital in Shenzhen to pilot the post treatment pay service for insured patients that expanded the services to uninsured people. The service is well received and the numbers of patients that miss payments have already decreased. Missed payments from the service since it was launched in 2012 have already reached 73,600 yuan.
The hospitals will be sending messages through phone a week after patients have completed medical treatment that will remind them to settle their bill. Patients that are deemed maliciously refuse to make any payments when they ignore the reminder for more than a month and will be placed on a blacklist in the personal credibility system. Police will then be asked to get involved if a large amount of unpaid medical bills needs to be recovered.
Even with the new service several hospital workers are still concern that there will be still patients dodging payments, hospitals sees about 4,000 patients everyday and half of these patients are uninsured. Although the service is in its trial stage the hospital is encourage to look for loopholes and find solutions and further improve the system.
