Fundraising activities at Shezhen (Nanshan) Concord College of Sino-Canada came to a close last week, with Thursday November 28th seeing a Movember Carnival take place before the shaving of the moustaches accompanied the reveal of the total raised on Friday Nov 29th.
Movember is a global charitable movement aimed at raising awareness for cancer, specifically prostate cancer and other forms of cancer that affect men. Teachers at SCCSC spent the month of November growing mustaches and raising awareness. Students, under the umbrella of Round Square’s Service Pillar, organized the Movember Carnival. It featured interactive games and activities that helped spread awareness and raise money for cancer research in a fun and positive way.Games and activities included pin-the-moustache, face painting, BBQ, and a raffle to raise funds. The Carnival was a great success, with teachers and students alike having fun while learning more about something that is often not discussed. Combined with several other fundraising initiatives throughout the month, such as prize draws, staff soccer games, and singing competitions, the school was able to raise 26,000RMB. The total was revealed to the students Friday afternoon as part of a moustache shaving event where all participating teachers allowed the students to handle a razor and remove those hard-grown moustaches. All money raised will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation (Guangzhou). The Terry Fox Foundation began in Canada and has spread worldwide, helping to fund cancer research projects across the world. The money will be distributed to worthwhile causes across Guangdong Province.
