Commission to Implement New Smoking Fine by Next Year
Based on the new Shenzhen smoking control regulations all operators and administrators of public places that fail to fulfill the duty of banning smoking in this places will now be fine 30,000 yuan and the new fine will take effect on March 1st. The non smoking places are indoor public work spaces, school, parks, medical institutions and public transportation.
The city transportation commission is the one in charge of controlling the smoking measures on public transportation. The commission is just one of the seven government departments that are tasked of enforcing the smoking control regulations. The six other enforcers are the city tourism, city police, city education, urban management and market supervision departments. Smoking in 21 of the long distance bus stations is already been effectively working and has been controlled. One method of effectively controlling smoking is by persuading or telling people to stop smoking directly from smoking in public places.
A transport commission official said that certain places such as the bus station in Luohu that has an indoor and outdoor area makes it hard to implementing the smoking control measures of asking people to smoke outside. Officials are hoping that the new measures will help improve the awareness of smoking in public places.
The regulations also includes controlled smoking at entertainment places ranging from dance halls, spas, karaoke parlors and bars before December 2016 wherein these places needs to construct an area that is reserved for smoking.
