Come Raise a Glass at The Tavern!
Already a well-established and popular restaurant in Guangzhou, Shekou has been lucky to receive its very own version of The Tavern. The recent opening of this popular restaurant & sports bar has brought locals and expats alike to its charming 3rd-floor space, to drink, dine, and view the ever-expanding SeaWorld square, along with the distant views of Hong Kong’s sparkling lights.
Seated outside under the few stars visible, we chatted over cocktails with Craig, the manager at The Tavern. Having only been in Shekou for 5 months, Craig’s current enterprise is his restaurant/bar and what success he has had so far! A charming, friendly guy, Craig told us of The Tavern’s history in Guangzhou and the exciting move to our little corner of Shenzhen, as well as the pleasure of meeting new folks in the area. His enthusiasm for his business bubbles up as he describes upcoming plans and events, as well as the specialty menu items and custom-made drinks. Feeling instantly welcomed, we decided it was time to peruse the menu and try out these dishes ourselves!
We started with the bacon cheese potato skins, piping hot from the kitchen, followed by bruschetta, which had a satisfying crunch and the fresh flavours of tomatoes and basil, and then the English beef stew Yorkshire pudding, which was rich and savory, stock full of meat and vegetables, and presented in a crisp bread bowl. To match our expertly mixed drinks (an Amaretto whisky sour and a Manhattan), we decided to order the oyster plate, which was presented on a bowl of ice, fresh and delicious, with squeezed lemon. The food here is cooked with the utmost care and will satisfy even the hungriest diner, and with such an extensive selection food items, it is impossible to get bored.
The Tavern not only offers a fantastic Western & traditional English menu that caters to breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they also host a family-friendly traditional lunch option every Sunday, all day. Happy Hour specials are available 4pm-8pm, or for those wishing to try more than just a few items from their extensive bar menu, join in on Mondays for their offered all-day Happy Hour!
Broadcasting all major sporting events, The Tavern claims 10 large-screen TVs, and is the only bar in Shekou that has 3 screens outside. With a friendly crowd, free pool table, and sporting channels, it’s easy to enjoy an evening out! Watch the big game out on the open terrace with a couple of high-quality beers, or settle in for a romantic dinner, under the heat lamps as the fountains and lights perform in the square.
We have made this establishment a new requirement for any evening out, starting with dinner and drinks, and often staying later than originally planned to enjoy our conversations and the fantastic views. The Tavern is warm and welcoming, and feels just right for an evening (or day!) with your family or friends.
Check them out online at http://www.tavernchina.com, or swing by 11am-2am any day of the week to sample the food & drinks yourself! I know The Tavern will quickly become a favorite spot in the new SeaWorld, so visit today to claim you knew of them first!
