City to Start Collecting Parking Fees After Gathering Public Opinions
The city will start charging 5 yuan for the first 30 minutes of roadside parking in designated areas then an additional charge of 10 yuan for every 30 minutes from 7:30 am to 10 pm during business days. The new fees are based on the new drafted plan that was released by the Shenzhen transportation commission.
Drivers parking in the fee zone for the entire day will be paying around 285 yuan. Charges for non business days are at 2 yuan for the first 30 minutes than 4 yuan for every 30 minutes after or 114 yuan for the whole day. The drafted plan has set no fees for parking from 10 pm until 7:30 am every day. The transportation commission designated more than a thousand parking spaces in four areas namely the southern part of Futian CBD, Tainbei in Luohu District, Zhuzilin in Futian and Nashan’s CBD. Collection of the parking fees will start in January 2014, and by next year an additional 12,000 parking spaces will assigned for fees by the end of 2014 and an additional 32,000 parking spots by 2015.
The parking fee plan is also open for public suggestions a few weeks ahead of the December 28 hearing. Residents interested in looking at the details of the plans and on the hearing can check the commission’s official website www.sztb.gov.cn. Revenue from the parking fees will be placed in a special funding that will be used in the development of public transportation and traffic relief projects.
