More Cross Border Travel to Happen During Christmas and New Year SeasonCity checkpoints will be seeing more than 8 million cross border trips for the upcoming Christmas and New Year season as more residents are planning trips outside of Shenzhen for vacation or shopping trips. More than 4.7 million cross border trips is expected from December 20 to 26 with travel peak to happen on Saturday where more than 730,000 cross border travel is expected to happen on that day. Cross border trips will reach 3.15 million by the New Year holiday which is December 28 until January 1. To help deal with the increase in the number of travelers, more staff will be added to the checkpoints to assist in the exit and entry inspections especially during rush hours.

Futian checkpoint is planning to add more lanes for outbound travelers to avoid large crowds from gathering. While Luohu Checkpoint will allow individual travelers and group travels to be inspected in separate floors in the terminals. Eligible travelers holding multi entry permits to Hong Kong are advised to use the e-channels that only take less than 30 seconds.

Since Christmas is just around the corner and local checkpoints are seeing an increase in the number of cross border travelers to Hong Kong to do shopping and sightseeing. These checkpoints in he city saw a daily average of more than 600,000 cross border trips and officials say is 20,000 more travelers than last year.
