Market Authority to Close Poultry Markets for Disinfection
As of yesterday live poultry markets around the city where closed for disinfection to further prevent the spread of the H7N9 bird flu virus after following the requirements coming from the provincial market supervision authority. The authority is requiring these poultry sellers are cleaning up their stands everyday and conducted thorough cleaning at least once a week and will be closing their stands once a month for disinfection.
There will be two other provincial wide disinfection to be held in the coming weeks one will be done before New Year’s Day and the one disinfection will be one day before the lunar Chinese New Year. Nanshan Poultry Market sellers are disinfecting their poultry stand everyday from 9 am and 10 am or at 2 pm depending whether the business is slow or not. These sellers are also complying with the thorough cleaning and monthly disinfection schedules issued by the commission,
The city market supervision bureau is also tightening the supervision of poultry seller’s business licenses. Sellers caught selling without licenses will be banned for the markets and well as having poultry without inspection certificates will call for banning. Those who fail to also meet the commission’ requirements will be fined and their operation suspended or have their licenses revoked. Residents are constantly reminding not to buy any poultry that are sold by the road and without any information of its origin.
