Shenzhen Opens New Park in Dapeng New Area
The city park management office has announced that the Dapeng Peninsula Geopark opens today at the Dapeng New Area east of Shenzhen. Entrance is free just like any public park in the city. The first facilities to open is a geology museum that covers more than 8,000 square meters and has instructional exhibits that uses multimedia technology. The museum will show off various exhibits including fossils and precious rare minerals. The museum will open its doors from 9:30 am until 4:30 Tuesday to Sunday.
The geopark covers nearly 51 square kilometers and around 67 kilometers of coastline featuring volcanic rocks that were formed 135 million years ago after two volcanic eruptions with coastal landforms created between 10,000 to 20,000 years ago. Two geological hiking paths are created in the park, one routs is 3.3 kilometer longs and leads to the main peak of Qi’niang Mountain the second tallest mountain in Shenzhen were hikers can enjoy volcanic rocks and rare plants that are found along the paths, the second path is 6 kilometers long and stretches from Yangmeikeng to Luzui, and will feature coastal landforms and a wetland reserve.
To ensure the safety of visiting tourists and residents a 150 member team has been created by park management to patrol the park 24 hours a day. The patrolling teams will also help in preventing these visitors from accidentally destroying of damaging fossils. Park authorities are hard at work to start the construction of the park’s second phase the will upgrade the park with an international status that is acknowledged by UNESCO.
