Hearing on the Free 15 Minutes Roadside Parking Attended by Lawmakers and Residents
Local lawmakers along with residents were present at a hearing on roadside parking fees that was held last Saturday and are hoping that transport authorities will implement a 15 minute free parking. The fifteen minute free parking will allow drivers to park on the roadside to do quick errands such as going to the bathroom or to withdraw money in banks.
These lawmakers said its necessary to allow a 15 minute period free parking and paying for roadside parking fees for a few minutes is unreasonable. Lawmakers at the hearing are in support of the collection of parking fees. These lawmakers also said that the 15 minutes of free parking will help drivers to make full use of roadside resources and at the same time maintain an efficient turnover. Furthermore more parking spaces will be constructed on some residential areas and urban villages since this places offer drivers few choices in parking at roadsides or on sidewalks.
The fees collected will be used in building more roadside parking spaces or to renovate parking lots. Residents that attended the meeting said that the roadside parking fees must be more expensive than indoor parking fees since it use public resources, but some said that the fees must be tabulated every 5 to 10 minutes. Using such method could improve efficiency and make the fees more reasonable.
The city is now planning to pilot collection of roadside parking fees starting next month at the four areas namely in Nanshan CD, Tianbei in Luohu, southern Futian District and in Zhuzilin in Futian.
