Hospital Hopes to Find Solution for Overstaying Patients
Patients at eight of the 11 public hospital’s in the city are refusing to leave the hospital after they have been fully recovered. Some of these patients have been staying in the hospitals for more than 17,000 days and already owes the hospital more than 8 million yuan in fees.
The director for operations of the city hospital management center said that some of the patients are vagrants that were sent to the hospital by police after they fell ill. And since hospital employees could not contact any of their family members some of these patients refuse to leave the hospital since they have nowhere to go. Over staying patients are those who also have unpaid large medical bills and are still in recuperative treatment and even if the treatment does not require any hospitalization they still linger in the hospitals.
Some of the biggest patients that refuse to leave the hospitals are the one involve in medical disputes. Hospitals can force these patients out unless police will intervene. The hospitals have started to act as shelters for people that think that they are in a disadvantage. And since there is no government funded rehabilitation center in the city that can provide free services to them.
