Workers to Start Construction on Planned Pingyan Passage
The construction of the Pingyan Passage at the foot of Maluan Mountain started yesterday and is said to be the longest tunnel to be constructed on the city’s east side. The tunnel will be dug by the side of the road and will link Pingshan New Area with Central Shenzhen and Yantian District.
At the end of the 11.2 kilometer north to south urban expressway will be at intersection of Jinlong and Zhongshan Boulevard in Pingshan south of Pingshan River. The new passage will then connect with Yanba Expressway in Yantian. The passage will have six lanes and a speed limit of 80 kilometers an hour. The Pingyan Passage will consist three bridges and two flyovers and will cut down the drive time from Pingshan to Yantian down to 10 minutes. The 7.9 kilometer tunnel will also have two parallel holes and will form the majority of the Pingyan Passage and will travel beneath the OCT East theme park. The new tunnels will also include two 200 meter sections of landscape and installations that will control sunlight at entrances and exits.
As of the moment drivers have to take Nanping Expressway, Hengping Road and Shuiguan Expressway to travel form Futian district to Pingshan which takes about and hour. The tunnel project is said to be completed by 2015 and will allow drivers to travel from Pinghsan to Central Shenzhen in about 40 minutes.
