Commission Plans to Expand Hours to Roadside Parking
The city transport commission is planning to expand the hours for free roadside parking during night after suggestions from representatives came to the hearing of the newly proposed parking fees. The transport commission also said that it will now allow vehicles to park on roadsides for a certain amount of time before being charged or calculation of fees starts.
City representative attended the December hearing suggested that a 15 minute free parking should be offered since drivers usually park on the roadside to withdraw money from an ATM machine or to go to the bathroom. The commission also said that the changes might take effect this month. the transport commission also didn’t accept any suggestions o the fees o be calculated every 15 minutes rather than every half hour even with several lawmakers agreed that such a method of tabulation might improve efficiency and make the parking fees reasonable.
Based on the new parking fees created by the Shenzhen urban transportation planning center the new roadside parking in fee areas will now be from 10 pm until 7:15 am. Fees in high traffic locations on business days will be at 5 yuan for the first 30 minutes than an additional 10 yuan for every 30 minutes after from 7:15 am until 10 pm. On non business days the fee will be at 2 yuan for the first 30 minutes and 4 yuan for every 30 minutes after
Collection of these parking fees will be done in four areas in the city and collection will be done using radio frequency based ID technology.
