Cargo Air Carrier Given Green Light to Transport Passengers
Donghai Airlines a Shenzhen based air cargo carrier has been given approval to operate passenger flights. The carrier’s maiden flight is scheduled to happen starting next month at the Shenzhen International Airport.
Donghai Airlines has spent more than 400 million yuan in building a operations base in Shenzhen covering almost 150,000 square meters just north of the old airport terminal. The operations base has complete facilities including a office building, hangar, maintenance apron and control building. Later this month the company will be starting the second stage of its operations base that is schedule to be completed by August of 2015.
Donghai Airlines also signed contracts with Boeing to buy 25 B737-800 passenger planes. The airline is also planning to open more routes to cities such as Nanjing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Ningbo, Beijing and Chengdu. The airline have hired an additional 100 experienced pilots and has introduced several captains from other airlines local and abroad which they also sent overseas for training.
