Private Museum to Open Fifth Branch in Shekou
China’s oldest private museum Guangfu Museum will open its fifth branch in Shekou in Nanshan in two years time. The new museum will cover around 4,000 square meters in the Seas World culture and art center and will be featuring collections from notable design works. The museum will be opening its doors tp the public by 2016. The new museum is part of the plan of China Merchants Property Development Co. to further increase the cultural presence in the area.
The Guangfu Museum is a nonprofit museum that is known for having the richest collections of cultural relics among all of the private museums in China. Ma Weidu, the museum’s curator and founder stated that the museum is adopting strong regional characteristics with all of its branches that are found in different locations and is striving to serve the demands for art appreciation from residents. He also said that the Guangfu Museum along with the Shenzhen Museum to integrate local cultural resources along with commercial opportunities in creating a world class art center.
The CEO of Guangfu Baoku, Liu Feiguo is managing the museum’s collections and the Shekou branch is intended to enhance commercial experience along with its cultural collection at the time when cultural experiences will be weakened by the growing commerce. He also hope that a real integration of culture and commerce will be brought in to help traditional culture to stand up to the challenge of economic development and help realize the museum’s goal to have a sustainable development.
