Subsidies for Elderly Childless Couples to be Increased
Elderly couples who lost their only child will become eligible to receive monthly subsidies of up to 1,000 yuan in 2014 after the city complies with the State Policy which raised payments. A recent survey of the Shenzhen Family Planning Association of local couples who lost their only child showed that 66 percent said that they expected to get financial support from the government, while some are requesting psychological counseling or any other assistance including subsidy increase to parents suffering from difficult situations.
The National Health and Family Planning announced last month that a single child couple with the wife who is older than 49 will be getting higher subsidies starting in 2014. All subsidies for rural and urban families having a only child that is handicap will be at 150 yuan and 270 yuan per parent per month. The new subsidies for these families who lost their only child now stand at 170 yuan and at 340 yuan per parent per month.
The city will be released their official statement on their stand on the new subsidy policy soon. As of the moment the subsidy rates in the city is at 225 per parent per month for the loss of the only child to families with household registration and 180 yuan per parent per month for family whose only child is handicapped. Couples with Shenzhen hukou will get an additional 160 yuan per parent per month if the wife is older than 55 and the husband is older than 60.
