Couples Willing to Have Second Child Once Family Planning Policy is Implemented
The city health and family planning commission said that there are about 25,000 couples that are eligible to have a second child in Shenzhen and are willing to have one. Last year a national regulations was implemented that relaxed the country’s one child policy by allowing couples to have a second child if either parent was a single child. So far no local regulation in the policy has been implemented.
Based on the recent study conducted by the commission the city is home to around 40,000 couples that are eligible to have a second child with 30,000 of this couples have already one child. The city will then start implementing the changes in the policy once the Guangdong Province has completed the revisions. It was suggested that those couples willing to have a second child should wait until the policy is implemented locally which is said to happen this year. The commission stated that any child born before the local implementation will be considered as illegal.
To cope up with the possible increase in birth rate once the policy is implemented most of the districts are starting to build new child care and maternal hospitals. The Shenzhen Maternal and Children’s Health Care Hospital has already began its construction of a new inpatient department that can provide up to 1,200 beds.
Demographers has predicted that the population in China will peak at 1.4 billion in 10 years then will slowly start to decline which will make policies on family planning unnecessary.
