Holiday Travel Peak to Start SoonWith nearly 2,600 passengers ranging from hundreds of migrant workers a temporary train left Shenzhen to Chengdu Thursday morning which marked that start of this year’s largest holiday travel season. Based on a study by the Shenzhen Spring Festival Transportation Office the railway, bus terminals and airports will be seeing more than 250,000 outgoing passengers during the first day of the travel season.

The city rail services can handle 125,000 outgoing passengers including the 46,000 passengers on the high speed trains that will depart the Shenzhen North Railway Station. The station will be operating 74 pairs of trains that will include the 48 pairs on the Shenzhen Guangzhou Beijing line and the 26 pairs on the Shenzhen Xiamen Shanghai line. Local railway authorities are advising any last minute travelers to try using other means of transportation since pre festival rail tickets are already sold out.

Meanwhile the Shenzhen International Airport has handled more than 50,000 outbound passengers as of yesterday an increase from its normal passenger flow. Furthermore airport authorities said more than 100,000 passengers have already passed through the airport on just the first day of Spring Festival Travel. The airport is said to handle around 3 million passengers over the 40 day travel period with outbound travel peak to happen a week before the Spring Festival.`
